The bottom of the garden.
Ok, I realize this is a pretty sad little effort and if you are a watercolourist do look away, but I can't tell you what a thrill I get from this medium. I find the sort of atmospheric look (that some artists seem to achieve so effortlessly) quite divine and the wet-in-wet techniques so beautiful, but I find them so very very difficult. Nonetheless, I am determined to keep trying. And trying. And trying. Which I guess is what it's all about. In the meantime, bear with me through the first trials....it can only get better, right???!!!

I love hearing your excitement about watercolors. Do not get discouraged and keep on going. Playing with them everyday is important. Keep on experimenting, be bold with pigments... you know that you can put layers and layers over them, scrub them, alcohol them.... mask them etc.... They are quite versatile even if willful to do their own thing.
ReplyDeletethanks, Jarina. They are such a beautiful medium, I know I'll keep going!!
ReplyDeleteMarny, this is really so lovely and I hear watercolor is difficult. I am really finding the current Jane D class really stimulating but feel sort of like you are feeling. You are quite good really. Jarina certainly is a good one to converse with I think.
ReplyDeleteIt's far from sad Marny! I can tell what it is & it's beautiful...AND impressionistic! What more can one hope for? I've been watching an old series of Frank Webb lectures on watercolor & he said that his teacher told him that you have to ruin/waste 1000's of pieces of paper to be a good painter...I thought, "Hey, I ain't doing so bad then"...It just always seems like a waste when things don't turn out how we had hoped but we learn so much by making things we think are less than perfection...babble...anyhow, I think this is a beautiful watercolor even if you do not!! cc
ReplyDeleteI love this one Marny! Mo
ReplyDeleteCarissa, Steph and Mo. Tks so much for your encouragement!!! I'll keep trying with the watercolours. They are such a lovely medium.

Thank you all for stopping by my blog!
Marny, I find all your work to be beautiful, but I keep being drawn back to this one, which has become my favourite. You capture the mystery and the beauty of the garden perfectly. Just gorgeous.
